Thursday11-06-2015 saw the beginning of the construction works for the building of the Department of Radiation Oncology at IASO Thessalias. The project has been assigned to the Larissean construction company ‘EKTOR’, jointly venturing with ‘TRITON’. The company specializes in the construction of health units and has constructed most of the largest hospitals in Greece. The total amount of the investment will approximately reach 4.000.000 €. The buildings’ total surface area will be 1,200 m2 and the project is anticipated to have been completed by December 2015.

The Department of Radiation Oncology at IASO Thessalias shall accommodate stat-of-the-art medical equipment which is necessary for the appropriate application of all current radiotherapy techniques. The staff to work at the Department shall be specialized and highly educated to fully respond to the specific requirements of all oncology cases and immediately cover the needs of the patients and their escorts.

The new Department of Radiation Oncology at IASO Thessalias is established with a view to serve the increased needs of the population in Thessaly and generally in Central Greece and Epirus, all of whom have been tormented for a long time in their search for treatment in the two largest cities, i.e. Athens and Thessaloniki. The well-organized Department of Radiation Oncology at IASO Thessalias will give all patients the opportunity to immediately start internationally standardized radiotherapy sessions, avoiding any waiting lists or delays.

Radiotherapy is one of the three main therapeutic approaches in cancer treatment along with Surgery and Chemotherapy. The efforts put by the entire staff at IASO Thessalias, aim to the effective and safe treatment, equal to the services provided in internationally recognized centers abroad.
