For the second year running, IASO Thessalias participated in the 14th Multidisciplinary Exhibition of Thessaly, which was held in the Roofed Market (Skepasti Agora) of Larissa, from 21 to 29 March 2015.

The Multidisciplinary Exhibition is the oldest in Thessaly and all the participating exhibitors have the opportunity of contacting thousands of visitors and exchanging views with them in a warm and friendly environment. The Exhibition constitutes a reminder of the presence of the companies operating in Thessaly and also a great occasion for IASO Thessalias to inform the general public of its services.

A unique offer by the Sleep-related Breathing Disorders Laboratory at IASO Children’s Hospital

Prompted by World Sleep Day, 21 March 2015, IASO Children’s Hospital gives you the opportunity to visit a Specialist Pediatrician at the nominal charge of 20 Euros. Our aim is to advocate the parents and raise their awareness on the significance of quality sleep for their children and the possible consequences of snoring and Obstructive Sleep Apnea Syndrome.

At the Sleep-related Breathing Disorders Laboratory at IASO Children’s Hospital, we examine children who snore, suffer from tonsillar hypertrophy (enlarged tonsils) and/or adenoids and noted sleep apneas. We also perform polygraphic sleep studies to investigate the thoracic and abdominal movements, electroencephalograms, electrocardiograms, oronasal airflow recordings and nocturnal pulse oximetries.

This means that we provide a comprehensive assessment on your child’s breathing pattern during sleep. This assessment is an essential tool in deciding upon surgical approach and always in agreement with the Pediatric-ENT.

A unique offer by IASO’s Department of Developmental-Behavioral Pediatrics

Prompted by the European Day of Speech and Language Therapy on 6 March 2015, IASO Children’s Hospital offers you the opportunity to visit a Specialist Auxologist (Developmental Pediatrician) at the nominal price of 50 Euros. Our aim is to advocate the parents and raise their awareness on the speech, language and communication needs (SLCN) their child may encounter.

Children may encounter:

  • Articulation disorders
  • Speech retardation
  • Speech fluency disorder (stuttering)
  • Accompanying cognitive impairments

IASO’s Department of Developmental-Behavioral Pediatrics provides diagnosis and specialist intervention in children with:

  • Speech retardation
  • Language impairment
  • Behavioral disorders
  • Autism spectrum disorders
  • Attention deficit and/or hyperactivity disorder
  • Autism spectrum disorders
  • Motor skill disorders
  • Developmental problems in preterm children
  • Developmental problems in children with chronic neurological diseases
  • Gifted children

The Specialist Auxologist, Scientifically responsible for the Department, heads a team of specialists who perform a diagnostic approach on the child and his/her family.

The team of specialists comprises:

  • A speech and language therapist
  • An occupational therapist
  • A specialist educator
  • A psychologist

Depending on the case, referrals are made to pediatric specialists such as: Pediatric Neurologist, Pediatric Psychiatrist and Clinical Geneticist.

The main objective of the Department is to address and support both children and their families and to provide appropriate management with a team of experienced specialists in order to ensure comprehensive and effective diagnosis and treatment.

Scientific Study Day on the diagnostic accuracy of imaging tests

At the Study Day tilted “Post Processing Imaging for diagnostic accuracy purposes”, Saturday 21 March 2015 at 10:00 p.m., highly respected scientists will present issues upon the significance of breast imaging assessment. The aim of the Study Day is to update and raise the awareness in clinicians involved with breast pathology and constitutes an initiative of the Medical Imaging Laboratory of the General, Gynecology and Maternity Clinic of IASO.

The speakers of the event are Messrs Dr. Avraam Giatas, Professor at the University of Texas, Chief of the Medical Imaging Laboratory at IASO and scientifically responsible for the study day, Charalambos Bougias, Breast Screening Technologist, University Hospital of Ioannina, Scientific Collaborator at GTS and Alexandra Christou, Radiodiagnostician.

The participation to the Study Day is free of charge and will be held at IASO Clinic’s Events Hall, 37-39 Kifissias Avenue, Maroussi.

The successful event of the Informative and Educational Study Day “I learn about Juvenile Diabetes (insulin-dependent diabetes, type 1)” was held at IASO General on Saturday 7 February 2015. The educational study day is the first of a series of educational actions organized by IASO General’s Diabetes Center and “Diabetes Card”.

Instructors, physicians and the general public, positively responded to the invitation given that diabetes, due to its increasing prevalence, is a disease that more or less affects everyone.

Mr. Antonios Lepouras, Internist-Diabetes Specialist, Chief of the Internal Medicine-Diabetes Clinic & Diabetes Center at IASO General and Ms Christina Vlachopoulou, Psychotherapist, Counseling Psychologist, informed the participants on juvenile diabetes and its complications management, on emergency complications management in the classrooms and on the psychological support of insulin-dependent diabetes young patients.

Next, specialist staff performed blood glucose tests and advocated on the injections technique and the right use of glucose monitoring devices.

IASO General’s Diabetes Center places great emphasis on the appropriate information and training not only of the diabetic patient so that s/he becomes the clinician of his/herself, but also of his/her family in order to psychologically support the patient and be of assistance in practice.
